PINOY ABROAD: Pinoy students rake in 97 medals at South Korea math tilt


Filipino students bagged over 90 medals, including 21 gold, in an international math competition held in South Korea last month. The students brought home 97 medals — 21 gold, 41 silver and 35 bronze — during the 2018 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) at the Yonsei University in Seoul on July 13 to 17. Aside from the medals, the 111 Filipino students also received 14 Merit Awards. A total of 1,100 students from 20 countries joined the WMI which is now on its sixth year. [Click here for complete list of Filipino awardees] WMI is the first international competition founded by Taiwan, with its finals held in different countries every year. This year, Reiona Ckyle Mundala, a Grade 7 student from Lipa City Science Integrated National High School, won a Bronze Award and $100.00 for her WMI Mini Math Creative Videoabout the Pythagorean Theorem. Meanwhile, Wesley Gavin Palomar, a Grade 8 student from Philippine Science High School, was hailed one of the Stars of the World by being the overall Top Scorer in his Grade Level.
